Henriette Mercer, MA, LCMHCA, LCASA, NCC
Henriette is a licensed clinical mental health therapist and a licensed clinical addiction specialist. She works with adults, adolescents, and children. Dedicated to trauma-informed care, she has completed specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
As a client-centered psychotherapist Henriete often incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques to help identify and modify negative thoughts or behaviors. However, her approach places a strong emphasis on psychodynamic techniques, which she believes is essential for understanding the unconscious patterns and unresolved conflicts that often underpin trauma.
The effects of trauma in adults are complex and can touch nearly every aspect of life, which is why a comprehensive, trauma-informed holistic approach is crucial for healing and recovery.
Psychologically, trauma may present as anxiety, depression, and PTSD, often causing difficulty with trust, attachment, and emotional regulation.
Behaviorally, trauma can lead to maladaptive coping mechanisms such as substance abuse, disordered eating, and avoidance behaviors.
Physically, trauma can manifest chronic pain, gastrointestinal issues, and other somatic complaints that have no clear medical origin but are linked to emotional distress. It could be your body’s way to let you know that there is unprocessed trauma.
Relationships – whether romantic, familial, or professional – can be strained or dysfunctional, as unresolved trauma impacts communication, trust, and emotional availability.
Trauma may feel isolating, but in our sessions, you will find a safe, supportive space where your experiences are validated, your pain is acknowledged, and you are seen as a whole person. She believes in creating a therapeutic space where clients can explore their experiences openly and move toward lasting, positive change.
